Gottman-Trained Couples Therapy & Marriage Coaching

For the Relationship That Still Has a Fighting Chance

Couples therapy & relationship repair for partners who still love each other but feel like they have lost their way back to each other. Virtual available anywhere and in-person available in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

You Finally Feel Heard

Communication in relationships breaks down quietly until suddenly you’re speaking two different languages and neither of you knows how it happened. We rebuild the patterns so both of you feel seen and understood.

Trust Gets Rebuilt

Whether you’re recovering from infidelity, emotional unavailability, or years of small betrayals that added up, trust isn’t gone forever. We work through it together without shortcuts, and without pretending the hurt didn’t happen.

You Move Forward Together

The goal isn’t just to stop fighting. It’s to build something better than what you had before. A relationship that’s more  connected and more resilient than the one that brought you here. That’s what flourishing actually looks like for two people.

What if your relationship could be stronger than it's ever been?

Couples therapy at Flourish Wellness isn’t about sitting across from each other in silence while someone asks how that makes you feel. It’s about rebuilding something real. Whether you are a couple in crisis, recovering from betrayal, or two people trying to merge families and losing each other in the process. With a therapist who has been trained in the most research-backed methods in couples work, and who believes your relationship is worth fighting for.

We hear these words a lot in sessions:

If you’ve thought any version of these things and you’re here still showing up, still wanting more… that’s not nothing. That’s the part of you worth listening to. Let’s work with that.

Helping couples move from surviving each other to actually choosing each other again.

Couples Therapy & Relationship Repair with Gottman Trained Therapists

Couples therapy & Coaching

The patterns that show up in your relationship didn't start there.

Conflict isn’t the real problem. The real problem is what’s sitting underneath the patterns you both brought into this relationship long before you met each other. The ways you learned to protect yourself and the things you stopped saying because it never seemed to go anywhere good.

We work on things like:

You remember why you picked this person and stop dreading the car ride home

That is not a small thing. That is everything. I get to watch people go from barely speaking to genuinely cracking each other up in session. From sitting on opposite ends of the couch to reaching for each other’s hand without thinking about it. From coming in certain it’s over to leaving with something that actually feels worth protecting.

We think that’s the best thing in the world. We really do.

COuples Therapy & Coaching

You are allowed to grow beyond what broke you apart

LOVE WAS NEVER THE PROBLEM. KNOWING HOW TO FIND YOUR WAY BACK TO IT IS.

At Flourish Wellness, we are not here to referee. We are here to sit with both of you, figure out what actually got you to this point, and then walk with you until you are genuinely choosing each other again. Not tolerating each other. Not just keeping the peace. Actually flourishing together. We bring real clinical depth, real lived experience with relationships, and the kind of honesty that feels like talking to someone who gets it because she does.

What is couples therapy and how does it work?

Couples therapy is a structured process where both partners work with a licensed therapist to improve communication, rebuild trust, and address the patterns that are creating distance in the relationship. Sessions typically run 50 to 60 minutes and focus on both the surface conflict and what is driving it underneath. Research-backed approaches like the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy give therapists a proven framework for identifying the specific cycles that keep couples stuck and interrupting them in lasting ways. Most couples begin to notice meaningful shifts within the first several sessions, though deeper work around betrayal or long-term disconnection typically requires more time.

At Flourish Wellness in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, couples therapy is offered by a Gottman-trained and EFT-practicing licensed mental health counselor specializing in communication breakdown, betrayal trauma, infidelity recovery, and collaborative divorce. Sessions are available in person, via telehealth for Florida residents, and by coaching for clients across the United States and internationally.

Why Work with Us

Why Work With Flourish?

"It's good to question things. That's how you figure out what you really want .”

Patricia McGlothlin, MA, LMHC, NCC, Certified Life Coach

Most therapy feels like a transaction. You show up, you talk, someone nods, you leave. Nothing moves. It is not supposed to feel that way.

Flourish Wellness was built by someone who sat on the other side of the room first. Our founder Patricia brings both professional expertise and lived experience to this work. She has walked through burnout, learned to navigate life with ADHD through a new lens, and experienced the healing that can come after betrayal, loss, and major life transitions. She has rebuilt, restored meaningful relationships, and learned how to release the ones that could not be repaired. She has also navigated single parenthood and the beautiful, complex work of blending a family. She does not just speak about healing. She has lived it, practiced it, and built a life that reflects it.

Sessions here move. They are warm, they are real, and they will sometimes make you laugh in the middle of something hard. That is not a coincidence. That is the work.

Many of our clients stay for years. Some move from therapy into life coaching when life shifts. The relationship does not have to end just because the crisis does. And because we are private pay, your records stay yours and no insurance company gets a seat at the table.

If you have tried therapy before and it felt like talking to a wall, we get it. This is different. Because the people doing this work have actually been where you are.

At Flourish Wellness, We Believe:

Relationship > The Method

We are Gottman-trained and EMDR-certified and all of it matters. But the reason clients stay for years is not the modality. It is the connection.

Everyone Is Welcome Here

This practice serves clients of all backgrounds, beliefs, and identities. Faith integration is available for those who want it. If that is not you, you are equally at home here.

Privacy Is a Right, Not a Luxury

We are private pay because your mental health record belongs to you. Not your employer. Not your insurance company. You.

OUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

how it works

Heal

We start right where you are. Frustrated, disconnected, maybe not even sure this is going to work. That is okay. You do not have to show up ready. You just have to show up.

Connect

We figure out what is actually going on underneath all of it. Because it is usually not about the dishes. Or the tone of voice. Or the thing that started the last fight. We go deeper than that.

Flourish

You start choosing each other again. Not because things got perfect but because you finally understand each other. And that changes everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Gottman Method is one of the most extensively researched approaches to couples therapy, developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman after studying thousands of couples over decades. It focuses on building friendship, managing conflict constructively, and creating shared meaning, rather than just teaching communication scripts. Gottman-trained therapists can identify the specific patterns that predict relationship breakdown and help couples interrupt them.

Research consistently shows that couples therapy is effective for a wide range of relationship challenges, including communication problems, infidelity recovery, and emotional disconnection. The most significant predictor of success isn't the severity of the problem. It's whether both partners are willing to engage honestly in the process. If you're both here, there's something worth working with.

Yes — infidelity recovery is one of the most common reasons couples seek therapy, and many couples do successfully rebuild trust and intimacy after an affair. It requires honesty, time, and a structured therapeutic process. At Flourish Wellness, betrayal trauma is a primary specialty. Recovery is possible. It isn't quick, and it isn't simple, but couples who do the real work often describe their relationship afterward as stronger than it was before the betrayal.

This is more common than you'd think. If your partner isn't ready, individual therapy focused on the relationship can still create meaningful change — because when one person in a relationship shifts, the dynamic shifts too. We can talk through your specific situation in a consultation. Sometimes one person leading is enough to open the door for both.

Collaborative divorce is a process in which both partners commit to resolving the end of their marriage outside of court, with the support of legal and therapeutic professionals. It's distinct from traditional divorce proceedings and from standard couples therapy — the goal is not reconciliation but rather a peaceful, dignified transition. Flourish Wellness offers therapeutic support for collaborative divorce, including co-parenting communication and emotional regulation through the process. You can read more here.

This varies significantly depending on the presenting concerns and how consistently couples attend sessions. Some couples see meaningful change within 8–12 sessions focused on a specific issue. Others engage in longer-term work, especially when healing from betrayal, processing complex trauma, or rebuilding connection after significant disconnection. We'll discuss a realistic timeline in your first session based on where you are and where you want to go.

The first session is just a conversation. We'll talk about what brought you in, what each of you is experiencing, and what you're hoping for. I'll ask questions, listen carefully, and begin to understand the dynamic between you. There's no pressure to have everything figured out or to present a united front. You can show up exactly as you are.
