Trauma therapy and EMDR for adults who feel anxious, shut down, reactive, numb, or off after experiences that felt too much, too fast, or out of their control. In person therapy is available in Jacksonville Beach and virtually throughout Florida, with coaching available nationwide and internationally.
You have been in survival mode so long it started to feel like just… you. We help your body understand that the thing that was happening is not happening anymore. That distinction changes everything.
Not because we dig through every memory and line it all up. But because the fog lifts and the pieces start connecting in a way that makes you feel less like you’re losing your mind. That clarity is the whole point.
You were never the problem. You were a person doing what it took to get through something genuinely hard. Once you understand that, things actually start to shift.
Sometimes trauma does not show up as one clear memory you can point to and explain perfectly. Sometimes it feels more like your body keeps reacting to life as if something is still wrong, even when you cannot figure out why.
You might feel anxious for no obvious reason. Shut down when things get tense. Too alert. Too numb. Too reactive. Like your body is trying to protect you from something, but no one gave you the manual. Which feels rude, honestly.
At Flourish Wellness, we help adults make sense of trauma through EMDR, nervous system work, and therapy that actually looks at the whole picture. Not just what happened, but what it taught your body to expect.
You do not have to prove that it was bad enough. If your body is still carrying it, it matters.
One of the things that keeps people from coming in for trauma work is the feeling that what they went through was not bad enough. That other people have it worse. That calling it trauma feels like something they have not earned. So they keep going. Keep compensating. Keep being fine. None of that is a requirement here. Trauma is defined by its impact, not its appearance. If it is still affecting you, it is still worth working on.
We work on things like:
You start noticing moments where you are not bracing for impact. You can pause before reacting. You can feel something without getting completely swallowed by it.
Things that used to send your body into panic, shutdown, anger, or spiraling do not have the same grip. Not because you forced yourself to calm down, but because your system is finally getting the support it needed.
You start to feel more here. More steady. More like yourself.
Trauma can show up in a lot of different forms. If something more specific is underneath what you are experiencing, there is a place for that here too.
If the trauma you are carrying came from a relationship where you were manipulated, gaslit, or made to feel like you were the problem, that has its own very specific shape. The fog, the self-doubt, the not being able to trust your own memory. That is not general trauma. That is its own thing and it needs its own approach.
Sometimes trauma lives inside a relationship that is still happening. If what you went through affected your ability to trust, connect, or feel safe with someone you love, couples work can help you slow things down and figure out what is actually going on between you two.
The end of a marriage is its own kind of trauma. Especially when the person you lost is still right there. If you are healing from a divorce or trying to move through one without it taking everything with it, there is specific support for that here.
Chronic trauma and chronic stress live in the nervous system the same way. A lot of people who come in describing burnout, numbness, disconnection, and exhaustion are not just overworked. They are carrying something older underneath it. If you have been holding everything together for so long you cannot remember what it felt like not to, that is worth looking at.
This one surprises people. But research consistently shows that adults with ADHD are significantly more vulnerable to ending up in toxic or high-stress situations, and that trauma can produce symptoms that look almost identical to ADHD. If you have spent your whole life feeling like you cannot get it together, cannot regulate, cannot follow through, and cannot figure out why, the answer might not be what you have always assumed it was. Sometimes untangling the two changes everything.
At Flourish Wellness, we are not here to referee or push you into more conflict. We are here to help you slow this down and understand what is happening. That way you can move through it with more clarity and less damage. Our goal is to have you come out of this hard moment still feeling connected to yourself and able to build a life that feels like yours again.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is one of the most well-researched trauma treatments available. It does not ask you to talk through every detail of what happened. It works with how your brain actually stores traumatic memory and helps it finish processing something that got stuck.
When something overwhelming happens, the brain sometimes cannot fully process it the way it handles ordinary memories. It gets stored differently. Fragmented. Emotionally charged. That is why certain things can take you back to a moment from years ago in a split second, like your body is still there even when you are not. It is not weakness. It is the brain doing its best with what it had. EMDR helps change that. Not by erasing what happened, but by helping your brain finally file it correctly so it stops being a live wire you trip over without warning.
At Flourish Wellness, EMDR is available as part of trauma therapy for Florida residents in person in Jacksonville Beach or virtually from anywhere in the state. If you are outside of Florida, trauma coaching is available to help you work through what you are carrying, even without EMDR specifically. There is still meaningful, substantive work to do from wherever you are.
"Patricia had provided me a safe space to process through any event I’ve needed while also giving me access to tools I can use to help manage anxiety outside of sessions. She also challenges my statements and thoughts to make me see things in a healthier light."
Most therapy feels like a transaction. You show up, you talk, someone nods, you leave. Nothing moves. It is not supposed to feel that way.
Flourish Wellness was built by someone who sat on the other side of the room first. Our founder “Patricia brings both professional expertise and lived experience to this work. She has walked through burnout, learned to navigate life with ADHD through a new lens, and experienced the healing that can come after betrayal, loss, and major life transitions. She has rebuilt, restored meaningful relationships, and learned how to release the ones that could not be repaired. She has also navigated single parenthood and the beautiful, complex work of blending a family. She does not just speak about healing. She has lived it, practiced it, and built a life that reflects it.
Sessions here move. They are warm, they are real, and they will sometimes make you laugh in the middle of something hard. That is not a coincidence. That is the work.
Many of our clients stay for years. Some move from therapy into lifecoaching when life shifts. The relationship does not have to end just because the crisis does. And because we are private pay, your records stay yours and no insurance company gets a seat at the table.
If you have tried therapy before and it felt like talking to a wall, we get it. This is different. Because the people doing this work have actually been where you are.
We are Gottman-trained and EMDR-certified and all of it matters. But the reason clients stay for years is not the modality. It is the connection.
This practice serves clients of all backgrounds, beliefs, and identities. Faith integration is available for those who want it. If that is not you, you are equally at home here.
We are private pay because your mental health record belongs to you. Not your employer. Not your insurance company. You.
We start with what your body is holding right now. The reactions. The disconnection. The thing that still feels off even when you cannot explain why. You do not have to have it figured out. That is literally what this part is for.
We start to make sense of it together. What happened, why it affected you, and why that makes complete sense for a person who went through what you went through. You were not broken. You were surviving. That is a very different thing.
Your nervous system catches up with the life you are actually living now. The bracing softens. The hypervigilance quiets. You start to feel like yourself again. Maybe for the first time in a long time.
No. Many people who come in for trauma work cannot fully name or articulate what they experienced. Some went through things so gradually they did not recognize them as traumatic until much later. Some have fragmented memory. Some just know something is off and they have known it for a long time. All of that is a fine starting point. You do not need a clear narrative. You just need to show up.
That is incredibly common. A lot of people arrive here having spent years telling themselves what happened was not bad enough to need help, that other people have been through worse, that they should be over it by now. None of that is a requirement here. Trauma is defined by its impact on your nervous system, not by how dramatic it looks from the outside. If it is still affecting you, it counts.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is one of the most evidence-based treatments for trauma available. Rather than talking through events in a linear way, EMDR works with how your brain stores traumatic memory and helps it finish processing what got stuck. The goal is not to erase what happened. It is to change how it lives in your body so you are not tripping over it every day. For Florida residents, EMDR is available as part of trauma therapy in person in Jacksonville Beach or virtually throughout the state.
If you are a Florida resident, this can be therapy, which includes EMDR and a full clinical approach to trauma processing. If you are outside of Florida, trauma coaching is available. That is still real, substantive work, and it can move things meaningfully. It just does not include EMDR specifically. If you are not sure which fits your situation, bring it up in the consultation and we will sort it out.
Our current private-pay rate is $200 per 50-minute session with a fully licensed master’s-level clinician.
We do not bill insurance directly. However, we can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your benefits.
Because coverage varies by plan, your insurance company is the best resource to confirm whether your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, whether you have an out-of-network deductible, and what portion of the session fee may be reimbursed.
Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions. We are happy to help!
Yes. Sessions are available in person at our Jacksonville Beach office, by telehealth for Florida residents, and by coaching for clients across the United States and internationally.
That happens more than you might think, and it is worth naming. Trauma requires a therapist who understands how trauma specifically lives in the body and why talk therapy alone does not always move it. If previous therapy felt like talking in circles with nothing actually shifting, you were probably not working with someone who specializes in this. This approach is different. And if it turns out it still is not the right fit, we would rather tell you honestly than keep you spinning.
Not quite ready to request a consultation? That is completely okay. Send a message and we will take it from there.
We offer both in person and virtual sessions. If you come in person, you can expect a calm, welcoming space just a short walk from the ocean. If it feels right, we can even take your session outside for a walk along the beach. You may also be greeted by Gandalf, our resident therapy cat. He is in on select days only and clients are always notified in advance. Allergies? The office is thoroughly cleaned on days he is out. He leaves no trace. A true professional.
